What to Expect After Surgery
After surgery you will be taken to the Recovery Area. We will monitor you as you wake up from the anesthesia. If you are an inpatient, when you are awake and stable you will be transferred to the Urology or Surgical unit. A volunteer in the visitor waiting lounge will notify your family and friends of your room number so they may join you.
People having outpatient surgery will go home the same day as they have their procedure. After you have sufficiently recovered from the anesthesia and have been evaluated, you will be discharged from the hospital. Remember that you will not be able to drive, so it is important you have arranged for a ride home. We also recommend someone stay with you the remainder of the day and the night as you continue to recover.
For a complete and speedy recovery, follow all directions given to you by the hospital staff and your physician.
Your physician’s office will be available to answer any questions and arrange a follow-up visit. If your surgery required sutures, they may be removed then.
