Rehabilitation Services

When you are admitted to the Stroke Center at Memorial Medical Center, your therapy team may consist of a Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist & Speech Language Pathologist. They will assist you in achieving your maximum independence.

Physical Therapist

Assesses and treats mobility deficits, works to improve balance, and range of motion, designs exercise programs to increase strength and endurance and determine how patients move in their environment, such as transfer techniques and walking vs. wheelchair.

Occupational Therapist

Retrains patients to resume self care activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, feeding, grooming, toileting and so on. Works to improve function in patient’s upper body as well as visual-perceptual and cognitive skills needed for independent living. May conduct home evaluations according to individual patient.

Speech/Language Pathologist

Evaluates and treats problems with speech and language skills, such as comprehension, expression, memory, cognition, reading and writing. Addresses the patient’s ability to swallow liquids and food safely.
