At Memorial Medical Center, our team of skilled surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses and therapists are ready to assist patients throughout their surgical procedures. First Steps was designed to help patients and their families prepare mentally, medically and physically for their surgeries by addressing activity, exercise, nutrition and lifestyle choices. Partnering with patients for several weeks before surgery and encouraging changes that improve overall well-being and health will lead to better outcomes and greater patient satisfaction.
Patients who will be undergoing an elective orthopedic surgery are encouraged to attend this free education class at least six weeks prior to their scheduled surgery. Topics of discussion include physical fitness, exercises to promote balance and flexibility, nutrition and lifestyle changes to ensure our patients achieve maximum benefit from their surgical procedure and are committed to achieving success.
The class takes place the first Wednesday of every month from 5 to 6 p.m. in the multipurpose room of the Gus and Flora Kerasotes YMCA, 4550 W. Iles Ave. The class is free, but you must call Memorial orthopedic services to register at 217-757-4298.
