Memorial Medical Center is home to the only Level 3 adult epilepsy center in Springfield and is accredited by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC). It provides a range of diagnostic evaluations and treatments including medical, neuropsychological, surgical and psychosocial services to treat patients diagnosed with epilepsy.
What is Epilepsy?
Epilepsy is a neurological disorder that affects your nervous system causing seizures that are not caused by another known factor or medical condition. Refractory epilepsy occurs when medicine is unable to bring seizures under control.
The Neurosciences Center at Memorial Medical Center is a Level 3 adult epilepsy center that has a fully-integrated and multidisciplinary team that includes specialists from SIU Medicine. The team includes specialists in neurology, neurosurgery, neuropsychology and a team of epilepsy-trained nurses, mid-level providers, pharmacists, social workers and other clinical and administrative staff. Our team works to help you regain or maintain a fulfilling and productive life.
Epilepsy Monitoring Unit
The epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU) at Memorial Medical Center evaluates, diagnoses and treats seizures. Our epilepsy experts including epileptologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, radiologists, nurses and nurse practitioners, EEG technicians, psychologists, social workers and other specially-trained clinical care staff monitor and care for you 24/7 during your stay.
