Aneurysm & Stroke Screening

The Memorial Comprehensive Stroke Center and Memorial Medical Imaging Services, in partnership with SIU School of Medicine - Neurology and Clinical Radiologists S.C., developed and launched a screening program for aneurysms and strokes.

Memorial Medical Center is the first in the country to offer such a screening.

Aneurysm & Stroke Screening Clinic

Monday – Friday at Memorial Medical Center
7 a.m. – 5 p.m.

It is estimated that 6 million people in the United States, or 1 in 50, have an un-ruptured brain aneurysm. The annual rate of rupture is 8-10 per 100,000 people or about 30,000 people in the U.S. annually. This equals one rupture every 18 minutes with 40% ending in a fatality; 66% of the patients who survive have a permanent neurological deficit; 15% die before they reach the hospital.

Risk Factors

The Aneurysm & Stroke Screening Clinic is a great resource for those with these common risk factors:

  • Smoking
  • High blood pressure or cholesterol
  • Diabetes
  • Coronary or heart disease
  • Recurring headaches
  • Family history of aneurysms or strokes
  • Polycystic kidney disease

Scheduling an Assessment

Anyone in the community can call the clinic to complete a short, free assessment over the phone with an MMC Medical Imaging team member. That information is provided to a Neurologist for review and recommendation for next steps.

You should hear from MMC Medical Imaging Nursing within a week regarding the Neurologist recommendations. All assessments and recommendations will be sent to your primary care physician.
