The Memorial Difference

What makes Memorial's Family Maternity Suites different?

A comfortable, family-friendly environment
Our focus is on you and your new family. Take a tour of the unit and you will appreciate the quiet environment, free from the chaos of a larger birthing unit. Visitors are permitted - and encouraged - in the homelike setting of our private postpartum suites, where families can spend the first precious hours of a baby's life together.

Neonatology and our Level II Nursery
For more than 20 years, our Level II Nursery has been equipped to care for little ones who need extra care, including babies born at 32 weeks or greater gestational age. Family Maternity Suites is affiliated with the Level III Perinatal Center at HSHS St. John's, just blocks away, in the rare instance your baby needs to be transferred to a neonatal intensive care unit.

OB Hospitalist
Memorial's Obstetrical Hospitalist Program offers reassurance that you and your baby will receive the best care, any time of the day or night.  Our OB hospitalists are available 24/7 to provide backup support in labor and delivery if your own OB is unavailable or if an emergency arises.

Magnet Nurses with Specialty Certifications
Our nursing team is three-time Magnet-certified, an accomplishment matched by only three percent of hospitals nationwide.

What does this mean for you and your baby? Magnet certifications means that nurses continually meet and exceed the highest standards for patient safety and quality of care.  The nurses who care for moms and babies in our Family Maternity Suites have attained specialty certifications in their fields and participate throughout the year in simulated training exercises that prepare them for any scenario.

Breastfeeding support
Our certified lactation consultants are on call to help you with breastfeeding during your hospital stay as well as after you return home.  We also offer breastfeeding support groups that provide the opportunity to interact with and learn from other moms who are breastfeeding.
