Kimberly Paskiewicz, MPH, RD,LDN
Program Manager, Memorial Medical Center

Kimberly directs new patient orientation, manages the Memorial Bariatric Services' staff, and facilitates multiple aspects of bariatric patient care, including pre-operative patient evaluation, multidisciplinary team meetings, staff education, patient education, post-operative follow-up care and support groups. She is a registered and licensed dietitian, and joined the Bariatric Services team in 2007 as the program's dietitian.

Kimberly is a Springfield, Illinois native and earned her Bachelor's Degree of Science in Food and Nutrition from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. She has a master's degree in public Health from the University of Texas School of Public Health.

Paula manages the medical-surgical unit where bariatric patients are cared for post-operatively. Her nursing staff facilitate the patient's care through clinical pathways - providing bariatric expertise in clinical assessment, management, education and discharge planning. Paula and the nursing staff participate daily in bariatric team patient rounds, and they have developed bariatric-focused nursing and patient education materials. Paula is a registered nurse, employed at Memorial in the nursing department for many years, serving as the 2G Nurse Manager since 2006.

Paula is an Illinois native, graduate of Memorial Hospital's School of Nursing, earned her Bachelor's Degree of Science in Health Arts from the College of St Francis and is currently enrolled in Loyola, New Orleans' Master in Science of Nursing - Health Care System Management.


 

Tiffany Turner
Nurse Practitioner Springfield Clinic
Tiffany is a board certified Nurse Practitioner. She has collaboration agreements with Dr. Max Hammer and     Dr. Orlando Icaza. Tiffany has been working with Drs. Hammer and Icaza and Memorial Bariatric Services  since June 2009. She interviews and examines bariatric surgical candidates, assists in the operating room, and performs rounds on inpatients. She handles lap-band adjustments and sees patients at their follow- up appointments.

Tiffany is a graduate of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and received her masters degree in nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and Illinois Nurses Association. She is also a Certified Bariatric Nurse.

Micca is the registered dietitian for Memorial Bariatric Services. She conducts all nutrition evaluations, educating patients in basic nutrition concepts and nutrition changes after weight loss surgery. She has been practicing dietetics since 2001 in the areas of general/medical, surgical, pediatrics, critical care, and weight management.

She graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor's Degree in Family & Consumer Sciences (concentration in dietetics) and a Master of Science Degree in Family & Consumer Sciences (concentration nutrition education).


 

Christopher Geldernick, MS, RD, LDN
Registered Dietitian, Memorial Medical Center
Christopher is a registered dietitian for Memorial Bariatric Services. He conducts all nutrition evaluations, nutrition education regarding basic nutrition and nutrition after bariatric surgery. He has been practicing dietetics since 2012 in the areas of general/medical, surgical, critical care, rehab, skilled nursing, and weight management. 

Christopher completed his undergraduate work at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale with an emphasis in Human Nutrition and Dietetics and he completed his Master of Science degree from Eastern Illinois University in Family and Consumer Sciences with an emphasis on Nutrition Education. Christopher completed his dietetic internship through Iowa State University. 


 

Shanell Schulz, MS, RD, LDN, CHWC
Registered Dietitian, Decatur Memorial Hospital
Shanell is a registered dietitian for Decatur Memorial Hospital's Specific Performance Enhancement Center. She conducts all nutrition evaluations, educating patients in basic nutrition concepts and nutrition changes after weight loss surgery. She is also the coordinator for the Diabetes Education program, Zumba Instructor, Wellness Coach and conducts Outpatient Medical Nutrition Therapy for DMH. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics from South Dakota State University and a Master of Science degree in Family and Consumer Sciences from Illinois State University.

Angela is a registered dietitian for Memorial Bariatric Services. She conducts all nutrition evaluations, nutrition education regarding basic nutrition and nutrition after bariatric surgery. She has been practicing dietetics since 2009 in the areas of general/medical, surgical, critical care, rehab, skilled nursing, and weight management.

She graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor's Degree in Family & Consumer Sciences (concentration in dietetics) and a Master of Science Degree in Family and Consumer Sciences (concentration nutrition education.)


 

 

Erin Spenner, MS, RD, LDN

Erin is a registered dietitian for Memorial Bariatric Services. She evaluates patients' nutritional status before and after bariatric surgery and conducts nutrition education sessions regarding basic nutrition and nutrition needs following bariatric surgery. She has been a practicing dietitian since 2010 in the areas of general/medical, critical care, chronic disease management and weight loss.

She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition from the University of Illinois and a Master of Science degree in Family and Consumer Sciences from Illinois State University.

Angela is the registered dietitian for Memorial Bariatric Services at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center. She conducts all nutrition evaluations, educating patients in basic nutrition concepts and nutrition changes after weight loss surgery.

She graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor's Degree in Family & Consumer Sciences (concentration in dietetics) and completed her dietetic internship from Northern Illinois University. Angela has been with Advocate BroMenn Medical Center since August 2005 as an inpatient clinical dietitian. She is also involved in the Wellness Coalition for McLean County.


Therese Meyer-Cox, PhD Program Psychologist

Dr. Meyer-Cox is a healthcare psychologist for Memorial Bariatric Services. She has been involved in our program since its inception. She completes pre-surgical psychological evaluations, sees patients at their follow-up appointments, and presents at bariatric support group meetings.

Dr. Meyer-Cox earned her Ph.D. from Auburn University and is board certified in Rehabilitation Psychology. Her areas of interest include behavioral medicine, health psychology, rehabilitation (with special focus on spinal cord injury and burn injury), weight management and health promotion, and women's health issues.


 

Leslie Roberts,

Leslie is the Licensed Clinical Social Worker for Memorial Bariatric Services at Decatur Memorial Hospital. She is responsible for conducting psychosocial assessments for all patients interested in having bariatric surgery, as well as follow-up visits with patients after surgery. 

She graduated from Millikin University with a bachelor of arts in psychology. She earned her master's degree in social work from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana.


 

Katie Sarnes, LCSW,

Katie is the Licensed Clinical Social Worker for Memorial Bariatric Services. She is responsible for conducting psychosocial assessments for all patients interested in having bariatric surgery, as well as follow-up visits with patients after surgery. 

She graduated from Illinois College with a bachelor of arts in sociology. In 2008, she earned her master degree in social work from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa.


 

Wendi Spitzig, LCSW Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Memorial Medical Center
Wendi is the Licensed Clinical Social Worker for Memorial Bariatric Services. She is responsible for conducting psychosocial assessments for all patients interested in having bariatric surgery, as well as follow-up visits with patients after surgery.

She graduated from Millikin University with a bachelor of arts in communication and psychology. In 2005, she earned her Masters Degree in Social Work at Loyola University in Chicago. She serves on the board for National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) Springfield Chapter.


 

Chad Hatayama, PT, Decatur Memorial Hospital
Chad is the Licensed Physical Therapist for Bariatric Services at Decatur Memorial Hospital and performs pre-op and post-op evaluations. He has been practicing since 1995 and with DMH since 1999. Chad has worked both in an outpatient orthopedic physical therapist setting in private practice as well as a hospital-based clinic. Chad’s current area of clinical focus is outpatient orthopedics, sports physical therapy, vestibular/post concussion rehabilitation, and bariatrics.

He graduated from Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana with a Bachelor in Movement and Sport science and attended Evansville University for a Master of Physical Therapy degree. He is A-Stym certified.




Anna Heaton, PT, DPT, Physical Therapist

Anna is the Licensed Physical Therapist for Bariatric Services at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center. She performs both pre- and post-operative assessments of exercise tolerance and guides patients in individualized exercise programs to maximize health and weight loss.

Anna graduated from Truman State University in Kirksville, MO with a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science and received a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, MO. Anna has worked for Advocate BroMenn Medical Center since July, 2008 in both inpatient and academic settings.


Julie Finnell, BS Physical Therapist

Julie is a licensed Physical Therapist, and has practiced at Memorial Health System since 1992. She has worked in Memorial's inpatient rehabilitation, inpatient orthopedics, and outpatient physical therapy settings. Julie assesses each Memorial Bariatric Services patient for individual activity tolerance before surgery, and guides the patient in a safe and effective exercise program pre and post-operatively.

She earned bachelor's degrees in Kinesiology with a focus on Athletic Training from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and Physical Therapy from Northwestern Medical School. She is a Certified Clinical Instructor.

Linda's experience as a Physical Therapist includes outpatient orthopedics, home health, and Bariatric Services. She enjoys the one-on-one interaction with her patients and the opportunity to help bariatric patients make permanent lifestyle changes.

A native of central Illinois, Linda graduated from Millikin University in Decatur. She then earned a Physical Therapy degree from Washington University in St. Louis.


Susan Cook, BA Financial Counselor

Susan is the Insurance and Financial Specialist for Memorial Bariatric Services. She handles the financial aspects of the program for all patients, including insurance verification and submission for coverage, advocating for payment of surgery, and managing financial considerations during the pre-operative process. She is a graduate of Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois.


Trisha Sheley Administrative Assistant

As the Insurance Specialist for Memorial Bariatric Services, Trisha handles insurance verification and submission for surgery coverage for Memorial and satellite services throughout the pre-operative and post-operative phase. Before assuming the role of Insurance Specialist, she was the administrative assistant for the program and has previous experience working on Memorial's 2G clinical unit.


Deidra Glisson, RN, MSN, MBA, NE-BC Director, Nursing Operations

Deidra provides nursing direction for the medical-surgical, cardiology, and rehab inpatient units. She began her career at Memorial as the Nurse Manager of the Neurology/Neurosurgery Unit. She has been in her current role since 2008 and is responsible for assisting the nurse manager of the inpatient bariatric surgical unit with day-to-day operations.

Deidra obtained her nursing degree from St. John's College of Nursing and completed her Master's program through the University of Phoenix. A native of Kentucky, she has lived in Springfield since 1993. She enjoys exercising and is a member of the Springfield Road Runners Club.
