Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

MMC-HBO

HBOT allows you to breathe 100% oxygen, normal room air is 28% oxygen, while in a pressurized chamber. This allows more oxygen to enter the blood stream. The extra oxygen is able to reach your wound and help with wound healing.

While in the HBOT chamber you will not feel much different. The slow increase in pressure may affect your eardrum. It is the same feeling you might have when traveling in an air plane or scuba diving. Our staff is trained in HBOT and will be able to assist you with methods to relieve any pressure you might feel.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a key component of wound care. Although not all patients are eligible for HBOT many can benefit from this therapy.

What conditions may be appropriate for HBOT include:

  • Diabetic foot ulcers
  • Crush injuries
  • Compromised skin grafts or flaps
  • Necrotizing soft tissue infections
  • Chronic bone infections
  • Radiation tissue damage
  • Problem/compromised wounds
