Lance Nagle

A Quick Response Helped This Dad Survive a Heart Attack

For months, Lance ignored the warning signs of an impending heart attack. He would wake up at night with shortness of breath. He would occasionally experience pain in his left arm. Then, one day at work, a normal episode of pain started to snowball out of control.

I'm so grateful for the care that Memorial gave me, that I can live my life again, that I can go golfing and bowling with my sons, that I can take a walk in the park with my wife and our dogs. I cherish every moment of that because it can be taken away so fast. You just don't know how fast. I'll always be thankful and grateful that we have a local hospital like that to take care of us.”

"I can’t even remember some of the pain that I was going through, but I remember lying on the concrete in our warehouse at work. I lied down. I’m like, “I’m not getting back up.”

Lance called his wife and told her he was going to the hospital. When she met him at the emergency room at Memorial, the nurses sprung into action.

“As soon as I said, “I think I’m having a heart attack,” I had 12 nurses grabbing me in the room. It was so quick. I mean, you can tell they do quite a bit of that and you could tell they know what they’re doing.

Lance was rushed to Memorial Medical Center, where they performed heart surgery, saving his life. Lance had a 100% blockage in one of his arteries, requiring a stent. After, he was able to reflect on what he just went through.

“The first thoughts that go through your mind, for me, is my family. I don’t want to miss my sons, I don’t want to miss my wife.”

Now, Lance exercises regularly and watches what he eats. And while he’s not thrilled with his healthy diet, he’s thankful he has a second chance to spend time with his wife and kids. And it’s all thanks to Memorial.
