Grant in Action: Donations matter to nursing staff

Lifelong learning for Memorial nurses

Two grants awarded by the Foundation gave 43 nurses the opportunity to complete specialized review courses on the way to becoming certified.

It is important for the Foundation’s donors to know they have supported our nurses in this important career accomplishment.

“As patient conditions becomes more complex, the need for knowledgeable, highly skilled care is great. Certification validates specialized knowledge, indicates a level of clinical competence and enhances professional credibility,” said Jill Chamberlain, RN, PhD, CNE, CHSE, manager of nursing research and academic partnerships at Memorial Medical Center.

Two grants covered the cost of education review materials, a national review course held at Memorial and the certification exams. Specialties included medical-surgical, psychiatry and orthopedics.

“It is important for the Foundation’s donors to know they have supported our nurses in this important career accomplishment,” Jill said. “The preparation and study for this acknowledgement improves our ability to care for our acute, chronic and complex patients and in turn create great patient outcomes.”
