Grant in Action: Meet Victoria

Birthing simulator trains medical providers

Thanks to an $80,000 grant, Victoria, a lifelike mannequin who simulates true-to-life labor and delivery, has arrived at Memorial Center for Learning and Innovation to enhance the skills of our healthcare workforce.

Victoria allows Memorial Health System to improve the knowledge, skills and abilities of the healthcare providers caring for pregnant women.

She can present shoulder dystocia, breech and C-sections births; hypertensive disorders; and postpartum hemorrhages, which give providers the opportunity to practice critical life-saving skills.

"Victoria allows Memorial Health System to improve the knowledge, skills and abilities of the healthcare providers caring for pregnant women," said Audra Chestnut, system director for Organization Learning and Simulation. "She teaches us how to provide better care and be ready for unexpected complications. The generosity of our donors, which allowed grant funds to be available, is literally saving lives."
