This infant mannequin is used to simulate various medical situations that can occur with newborns and was purchased with a $29,000 grant awarded by the Foundation earlier this year.
“Baby Newby is so realistic that it is very easy to get completely caught up in the stress of an actual code,” said Debra Lee, the nurse and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) instructor who wrote the grant. “There are no words that can express the appreciation the NRP instructors have to all those who made the purchase of Baby Newby possible. Thank you to the MMC Foundation for developing such a wonderful program that can provide necessary funding to life-saving learning opportunities
Trainings are offered 11 times throughout the year and will include obstetric staff nurses and physicians, pediatric nurses, family medicine residents and attending physicians, midwives, respiratory therapists, obstetric physicians and EMTs throughout Springfield and the surrounding communities.
“It is so exciting to be able to offer a course that can help prepare professionals to resuscitate newborns in such a realistic manner,” Lee said.
