Memorial SportsCare to Host Free Spring Training Series

Memorial SportsCare will host a free two-part training series, titled “Spring Training,” on two consecutive Tuesdays in April at the Gus and Flora Kerasotes YMCA.

The 90-minute sessions will begin at 6 p.m. on April 22 and April 29 and will be held in the YMCA’s multipurpose room. The Kerasotes YMCA is at 4550 W. Iles Ave.

The first session on April 22 will cover running and cycling. Presenters are Dr. Dan Adair, Springfield Clinic; Bob Thompson, BikeTek; Matt Lamsargis, Springfield Running Center; and Amanda Wilson, physical therapist, Memorial SportsCare. Participants can bring in their running shoes and bicycles for a professional evaluation.

The second session on April 29 will cover nutrition and wellness. Presenters are Dr. Nicole Florence, Memorial Weight Loss & Wellness Center; Angie Sebree, a clinical dietitian with Memorial Weight Loss & Wellness Center; and Gabriel Stinson, exercise physiologist with Memorial SportsCare.

“Starting a fitness program is one of the best things people can do for their health. Physical activity can reduce the risk of chronic disease, improve balance and coordination, promote weight loss and improve sleep habits and self-esteem,” said Frank “Tanker” Wade, SportsCare’s manager. “Our presentations are designed to help participants get active this spring with less risk of injury and improved performance.”

Registration is not required for these events. Those attending both sessions will be eligible to win a grand prize that includes a 20-session SportsCare Healthy Lifestyle package, three-month YMCA membership, and running and biking apparel.
