About the Color Blaze 5KTM
The main focus of this non-competitive event is fun and entertainment for the entire family. All participants are encouraged to wear as much white as possible because, during the the event, they will be "blazed" with waves of color transforming them into a tie-dye work of art.
More than 6,000 participants attended the first event in 2013, including several thousand children younger than 12 years old. About 60 Memorial volunteers helped with the event. Organizers donated a portion of the proceeds, $5,061.85, to Memorial Medical Center's Regional Burn Center.
Opened in 1970, Memorial’s Regional Burn Center, one of a few such units in Illinois, serves a wide region across central and southern Illinois. The Regional Burn Center provides care to more than 200 acutely burned patients each year with the latest in burn technology. The center’s nursing staff has more than 100 years of combined experience in treating acutely burned patients.
