The Pastoral Care staff at Memorial is available to support you and your spiritual or
religious needs while your medical needs are being met. Chaplains and volunteers from a wide
variety of religious traditions are available for spiritual counsel and support through
the Pastoral Care department. We will also be glad to provide or facilitate the provision
of any ritual or sacrament that will be helpful to you. If you do not presently identify with
a specific faith tradition but would like someone with whom to share your thoughts and
concerns, feel free to contact us.
The Henry Bunn Chapel on the first floor in the Capitol Zone is available at all times for prayers and solitude. Persons of all faiths and traditions are welcome and encouraged to use the Henry Bunn
Chapel for meditation and prayer. It is on the first floor near Admission and Testing.
To request a visit from a Memorial Medical Center chaplain or to arrange a visit from you own clergyperson, please ask your nurse or contact the Pastoral Care department between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at (217) 788–3585. The chaplain is available weekdays from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.
An on-call chaplain is available evenings and weekends for emergencies.
Social workers are available to assist patients and family members with counseling and planning for going home. Through counseling, they can help you understand and seek solutions to social, emotional and financial problems.
They also can arrange placement in an extended care or nursing facility or help plan for services such as homemakers, meal delivery or medical transportation.
Patient representatives are available to act as advocates for patients and their family members by addressing any concerns or problems.
The advocate can: act as a liaison between staff members, physicians and patients; communicate Memorial's policies, procedures and services to the patient and family; offer help with completing legal documents such as a living will or durable power of attorney; and serve as a notary public.

Patients, families and health professionals often face difficult decisions about medical treatments and patient care. Ethical questions and concerns can arise when the right thing to do is not clear or when disagreement exists about what is best for the patient.
Memorial's clinical ethicists offer ways to identify and weigh the values and legal responsibilities at stake so that individuals responsible for decisions can make informed choices.
Anyone involved in a patient's care - including a patient or family member - may request assistance from the Clinical Ethics Center by asking your nurse.
Our website offers two options for family and friends to offer support to hospitalized patients.
CaringBridge offers families a personal and private online space to communicate about their loved one's health journey with family and friends. Visitors can leave messages of support via the program's guestbook.
Family and friends can also send Memorial Medical Center patients a free, personalized greeting card through our website. Choose from many designs and greetings. There is an option to customize the message on the inside of the card. Cards are delivered Mondays through Fridays. You can find the link in the footer bar of any page on MemorialMedical.com.
