Naming Opportunities
Some of our donors wish to make a significant contribution and receive lasting recognition for their generosity and vision. In order to encourage such philanthropy and recognize large donations, the Foundation offers naming opportunities. This provides an extraordinary opportunity to our most generous donors to associate one's name with a building, wing, major medical equipment or other distinct area or program of care at Memorial.
Examples of such opportunities include:
- New or existing buildings;
- New or renovated portions of buildings (floors, wings, or other distinct areas);
- Landscape areas (garden or courtyard);
- Equipment;
- Collections of works of art; and
- Such other areas, programs or major medical equipment needs that are appropriate to name in order to recognize a distinguished supporter or benefactor.
Minimum Contribution
A minimum donation of $50,000 is required. In addition, depending on the nature of the facility or program being named, establishment of a permanent fund for future maintenance of the named area is also required. This ensures that designated funds will always be available to maintain an area bearing a donor's name in a manner suitable for a lasting legacy such as this.
Other Requirements
Additional financial requirements vary, depending on whether new or existing needs are being met. Donors are encouraged to discuss their areas of interest with the Executive Director of the Foundation or the President and Chief Executive Officer of Memorial Health System. In addition, naming opportunities are dictated by established Memorial operational criteria and must be approved by Memorial's Board of Directors.
Testamentary deferred gifts (including gifts by will, trust, retirement plan or life insurance policy) may be used in combination with an outright gift or pledge to fully or partially fund a named opportunity as long as the testamentary portion of the total commitment is no more than 50% of the total gift, is secured by an irrevocable pledge agreement, and the present value of the gift will meet the agreed gift level.
Buildings
To name a new building, a donor must contribute at least 51 percent of the construction cost. Portions of a building, floor, wing, or discrete area generally require 150% of the estimated value of the actual square footage to assure that sufficient provision is made for future upkeep.
Other Physical Facilities
In addition to naming buildings, other discrete spaces within existing buildings, such as laboratories, waiting areas and conference rooms are available.
Endowed Chairs and Professorships
As a teaching hospital, Memorial also offers naming opportunities for chairs or professorships. The continuing education of clinical staff assures that the highest possible quality of care is offered, and that visits by guest lecturers and visiting experts can be underwritten to provide up-to-date information about medical advances. The minimum gift for the establishment of an endowed chair or professorship is $10,000.
Equipment
Naming opportunities involving the purchase of equipment generally require 125% of the cost of equipment together with related construction/installation costs. Naming opportunities exist only for the expected useful life of the equipment and/or its maintenance.
Clinical Care Programs
Naming opportunities for existing programs generally require 100% of operational costs for a specified term.

- Regional Cancer Center
- Cardiovascular Program
- Women's Imaging/Mammography
- Center for Neuromuscular Sciences
- Chest Pain Center
- SpineWorks
- Orthopedic Services
- Emergency Center
- Specific wings of patient care areas
- Overhead connecting bridges between campus buildings
