What do a hot air balloon ride and a laptop computer have in common? How about a small refrigerator and a window air conditioning unit?
Each of these was a wish fulfilled for area hospice patients this past year by our Sharing Wishes Fund.
Imagine being told that your cancer has returned and that you only have a few months left. Imagine that you are being cared for compassionately by a hospice worker.
Imagine that he or she asks if you have some special wish, some small life’s desire that you would like to fulfill. What would your wish be?
For our hospice patients, these are exactly the kinds of conversations that our hospice workers engage in. Surprisingly, the wishes we’ve been fulfilling through Memorial Medical Center Foundation’s Sharing Wishes Fund are simple, singular, and for the patient, memorable. For Connie, it was a joyous hot air balloon ride. For Jim, it was a small bedside refrigerator for his medications. For Tom, it was an inexpensive laptop so that he could communicate electronically with family members. For Sue, it was a window unit to provide relief from this summer’s relentless heat.
None of these wishes were extravagant. Each one provided comfort and even pure joy.
You can help us fulfill the wishes of hospice patients throughout our community by making your donation today. Your generous thoughtfulness will help us fulfill
